The DPA 4017 is an extremely compact and extremely light shotgun microphone that combines high directivity with typical DPA signal clarity. It is suitable for a wide range of tasks such as use with camera systems, for permanent installations in sports facilities or in conjunction with microphone booms in the areas of broadcast and film. The 4017 is the state-of-the-art shotgun microphone with smooth off-axis sound and wide dynamic range. At the same time, it suppresses unwanted ambient noise in a unique way. At just 210 mm long and weighing 71 grams, the 4017 is one of the lightest and shortest shotgun microphones on the market. During development, the main focus was on optimizing the transmission of sound incident from the sides and rear. Minimizing the normally very non-linear response of a shotgun microphone was the top priority in the specifications. The capacitor capsule works with a "backplate" pre-polarized by high voltage and gives the 4017 a very high output level with extremely low noise and minimal distortion. The DPA 4017 has two switchable filters, which are designed as "switching rings" in a completely new design: a high boost with +4dB at 8 kHz and a first-order bass roll-off filter in the range below 300 Hz. A third-order permanent high-pass filter at 50 Hz suppresses unwanted, low-frequency handling and wind noise. Thanks to its remarkable clarity, large dynamic range and excellent directivity, the DPA 4017 is equally suitable for use in the studio as well as for recording live music
