I've never owned or even demoed the bigger Electron devices. I bought the model:samples because I wanted to get away from DAW-based rhythm design. The workflow on this device is excellent - minimal menu diving, most functions available with one or two keystrokes. The per-step variations (nudge, parameter lock and sample lock) are and make this relatively inexpensive device exceptional value for money. That you can't sample is a liberation, not a limitation. Highly satisfied with this purchase.
I am not very satisfied with this product. I would not buy it again. The controls are too complicated, and it is practically unusable for live performance. However, if you need a BeatStep Pro to control the device, then you may also need it for live performance.
