This capsule fits the AKG C460 and C480 mic BODIES ..so without the body (which contains the necessary pre-amp) the mic capsule itself doesn't do anything. I use it on a C480 body (not quite as slim as the old C451 bodies, so this capsule isn't backwards compatible with the C451) ..and it's FULL-BODIED with rich, deep bass and great airiness and clarity. At least, that's the REAR HALF of this short shotgun capsule: it's like a telephoto lens, bringing things seemingly *closer* by cutting out everything at the sides: this mic rejects sound from the side, making what's dead ahead sound much nearer or closer than you'd expect ..it has a wonderful effect of *intimacy* ..great for speech or song. The nearest comparison would be the old original 3-switch (1994) AKG C3000 set to 'Hyper-Cardioid'. It has the same bass solidity of the 3000 ..at twice the distance! Here's another comparison: it's the purity of the Sennheiser 416, but with extra bass. (You can roll off the bass, if you want, with the switch on the C480 body, at 70Hz and 150Hz.) Then screw on the other half of the capsule's interference tube (just an empty tube; no electronics inside) and you do lose a bit of bass, but gain extra apparent 'reach' ..not by its boosting any sound (..though you CAN do that on the C480 body with the +6dB switch, meant for use with this CK69 capsule..) but with the extra tube rejecting more sideways sound, so concentrating even more on what's dead ahead. It's meant as a 'location' mic for video, or a 'spot' mic for general audio, so with just *half* the tube - aimed at a cello, double-bass, marimba or bass cab - it gives extra clarity and 'lift' in a mix. For speech it has the intimacy of a hyper C3000, but with more 'breathing space' in front of the mic. It's very versatile - for spot instruments, v/o, commentary, or for a really intimate Zoom talk. But don't forget, you need the C480 body to go with it.
