The Ampeg V-4B 100W All-Tube Bass Head is a remarkable reissue of the legendary 1971 original, delivering the pure tube tone and unmistakable grind that earned the classic a place in bass history. And with a careful selection of modern features, the V-4B provides Ampeg all-tube tone in a portable design perfect for today's players.

Ampeg V4-B Topteil:
Jahrelang habe ich einen Markbass LM III über zwei Gallien-Krüger Neo212 Boxen gespielt. Über die Jahre habe ich aber festgestellt, dass mir soundmässig etwas Charakter fehlte. Diese Kombi ist halt schon sehr clean/transparent. Habe dann versucht, mit einem Sansamp Bodentreter etwas Röhrenfeeling rein zu bringen. Jedoch war ich nie wirklich zufrieden damit. Der Sound war einfach zu Hi-Fi mässig und flach, irgend etwas fehlte. 
Ampeg hatte ich immer von Vornherein ausgeschlossen, da es für mich nicht realistisch ist, ein 40kg Top und eine 80kg Box zu schleppen. Dann bin ich jedoch auf den V-4B gestossen, welcher absolut transportabel und vernünftig aussah. Habe diesen dann getestet und schliesslich gekauft und bin absolut glücklich! Genau das, was ich immer gesucht habe. Der Sound ist einfach der absolute Hammer. Schwierig das in Worte zu fassen, ich versuche es trotzdem: Erwachsen, druckvoll, definiert, charakterstark, der Ton steht einfach im solide Raum... Mein bisheriger Amp sieht alt aus daneben.  Es ist der Hammer, wenn man den Amp mit etwas Gain fährt, so dass der Ton zwar noch nicht hörbar zerrt, jedoch ist das gewisse Etwas da, was diesen Basssound so perfekt macht. Wenig Regler und kaum Schnickschnack, aber das braucht es nicht: egal wie man's dreht und wendet, es klingt einfach sofort gut, ohne grosse Einstellerei.... Der Bassamp kann dabei auch erstaunlich clean und modern. Bei aktiviertem ultra low und etwas rausgedrehten Mitten wird's sofort modern.
Lautstärkemässig hält das Top auf jeden Fall mit resp. übertrifft meinem bisherigen 500W Class D Markbass - mehr braucht man nicht. Dazu ist das Top vom Gewicht her etwa wie ein Gitarrentopteil, also kein Problem. Sieht zudem super aus. Einziges kleines Mängelchen: schade hat der DI out keinen eigenen Regler sondern ist von der Master Lautstärke abhängig. Deshalb ein Stern Abzug bei den Eigenschaften.

Ampeg SVT212 Box:
Und ganz wichtig: die passende Box macht gefühlt etwa die Hälfte des Sounds aus... Ich habe den Amp auch mit meiner GK Neo212 getestet, aber das passte bei Weitem nicht so gut wie die zum Top passende Ampeg SVT-212AV Box. Erst mit der passenden Box geht so richtig die Sonne auf... Die SVT-212AV ist vom Gewicht her nur gering, d.h. kaum merklich schwerer und praktisch gleich gross wie die GK Neo212. Lässt sich immer noch gut alleine tragen. Jedoch macht die Ampeg Box halt schon mehr Druck und klingt definierter und Erwachsener als die GK. Bei grösseren Lautstärken beginnen die 212 Boxen (sowohl die GK Neo 212 als auch die Ampeg SVT212) irgendwann zu 'furzen' und können den Druck dieses Tops nicht mehr verarbeiten. Das hatte ich mit meinem 500W Markbass Top nie geschafft, aber der Ampeg V4-B macht einfach unheimlich Druck untenrum. Für grössere Locations müsste da ev. doch eine grössere Box oder eine zweite 212 Box her. Aber für die allermeisten Fälle reicht eine 212 Box problemlos aus. 'Leider' konnte meine GK Neo212 nicht mit der SVT212 mithalten und so musste die Ampeg Box halt auch noch her... der Sound hat mit die Box verkauft.. Aber auch optisch sieht halt der V4B mit der passenden Ampeg Box unschlagbar aus...

Fazit:
Alles in Allem eine grosse Freude und seit ich die Amp/Boxen Kombi habe, bin ich neu inspiriert und glücklich mit dem Sound und will nicht mehr aufhören zu spielen.
