This component converts the signal from the microphone from low to high impedance, allowing it to be sent to a guitar or bass amplifier. It does not require batteries. It is made with solid components and does not produce any hum (although its design might even function as a hum filter, I haven't tested this). Items to add to a wish list: An adapter for 3.5mm (1/8 inch) connectors. There are microphones with large and small 3.5mm connectors as outputs. Some have mono 3.5mm connectors, while others have stereo 3.5mm connectors.
