I am playing folk music and I switched from Dominant medium to Obligato strings. The sound is much warmer and less 'aggressive' on the top E. Suits me and my fiddle perfectly for both backing and solo
I am very satisfied with the steel strings. Replacing the previous gut strings was definitely worth it.
