The real value here is that it’s accurate when you get used to it but especially useful for guitars with an asymmetrical neck in a live application. Meanwhile, the Shubb C1 (or S1) is still the go-to for a symmetrical guitar neck as once it’s set, there’s no fuss.

I have been using a G7 Newport capo successfully for several years on a Taylor acoustic guitar. When trying to use the same capo on a Fender Stratocaster the 9.5 inch fretboard radius did not match the flat-friendly G7 Newport. So I wrote to G7 UK and they were very helpful and guided me towards the new ART technology of the G7 Performance 3 ART model. It uses an adjustable cam arrangement that adapts to different fretboard radii. In using it I find it absolutely fit for the purpose. It needs a touch more careful positioning than the G7 Newport because there is no screw for securing the clamp. Also always check the correct clamping of the 6th E string because it can be out of centre and result in miss-tuning. However, do not let this deter you, just persevere and check the locking before commencing use. I have also fitted it to an Epiphone Joe Pass with a larger fretboard radius and it is equally satisfactory.
