I can't believe it! In 1987, I bought a used DX7 and became fascinated with FM synthesis. I loved the sounds and the difference it brought to the world of sound at the time. However, FM synthesis was incredibly complicated to use, which didn't stop me from falling in love with a SY 88 (AFM) and eventually the Montage 6 (FMX). But unfortunately, this type of synthesis remained extremely difficult to manipulate. Then Korg released the Opsix! This time, FM synthesis is ultra-accessible. The control of the operators is clear, and you can directly adjust their volume, harmonics, and feedback. It's brilliant! And new functions are added to the operators, such as wave shaping and ring modulation: This opens up completely new possibilities (including lush pads). It's not a small synthesizer that reminds you of the DX7 (as Yamaha also released the Reface), but rather a powerful super DX7! The front panel has 6 assignable knobs that provide access to all stages of the synthesis, just like the new analog synthesizers that are respected. The sound is magnificent and precise, and to top it all off, there's an arpeggiator and a step sequencer. The effects processor completes the prestigious sound produced by the entire system: Wonderful effects, like those we've come to expect from Korg, including amp simulations. If you love the particular flavor of FM, go for it!
