The KSM313 is the premium ribbon microphone for first-class sound in the studio and on stage. Equipped with the revolutionary Roswellite Ribbon Technology, it is more resilient and durable than conventional ribbon microphones, even under extreme conditions. The dual-voice design combines two different sound characteristics in one microphone. One microphone side has been optimized with an increasing frequency response for transparent vocal recordings. The other, with a darker sound characteristic, is ideal for recording electric instruments (e.g. electric guitar). "Roswellite" refers to an extremely strong, lightweight and super-elastic paramagnetic composite material that has high conductivity and shape memory. Simply put, the material has greater strength and resilience compared to traditional ribbons. Roswellite can withstand air blasts, popping noises, phantom power and high sound pressure without damage, even at low frequencies. The KSM313 and KSM353 were introduced to the public as "El Diablo" and "Naked Eye Roswellite" in 2007 and 2008, respectively. They were developed by Crowley & Tripp Microphones. The Audio Division of Soundwave Research Laboratories combined a nano material developed for medical ultrasound technologies with conventional foil ribbons to create the Roswellite Ribbon. In 2009, Shure took over the patents to Roswellite and now markets the microphones as part of the KSM series. The new KSM microphones combine the sonic advantages of ribbon mics with incredible resilience, so that use on stage is no longer a problem. Manufactured by hand from the most modern, high-quality components, they exemplify the unique quality of Shure microphones.
