A life for the blues
“There's probably a reason I'm still here. And it's becoming more and more important for me to find out why," says Eric Clapton . Peter Kemper sets out to find these reasons. He tells the story of how an unhappy white youth from a broken background in post-war Britain came up with the idea of dedicating himself to American black blues. He describes how the exceptional musician got his later drug use under control, how he dealt with blows of fate such as the death of his son - and where Clapton gets the strength to continue playing the blues. Kemper always takes two constants into account, namely Clapton's conception of the blues in connection with his understanding of "Blackness" (how could his gaffes against black people in Birmingham come about?) and his lifelong admiration of the blues myth Robert Johnson (1911–1938), perhaps the only secure point of reference in his life. Eric Clapton is the only artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times - with the Yardbirds, with Cream and for his solo career. He won 17 Grammys, including six in connection with the most successful album in the MTV Unplugged series to date. A Life for the Blues tells of Clapton's roots, his music, his global career - and his demons.
