Description

  • Discover the authentic feel of a real grand piano keyboard

To express yourself musically, you need to establish a physical connection with your instrument. In the AvantGrand series, this begins with the keys. The real wooden keys have top layers made of Ivorite®, which looks and feels like natural ivory. Then there is the all-important key mechanism that the AvantGrand series has inherited from Yamaha's prestigious concert grand pianos: you feel the same weighting and the same responsiveness, the same expressive possibilities under your fingers. To capture all the nuances of your playing, Yamaha uses a non-contact optical sensor system that does not affect the feel or movement of the buttons in any way. Under each key there is a continuous optical sensor that detects the speed and depth of the key press. An additional optical sensor on each individual hammer style measures the time and strength of the hammer strike on the virtual "strings". This information is instantly translated into a wonderfully authentic sound reproduction. The longer you play, the more you become one with the piano.

  • Two first-class concert grand pianos in one

Assessing the sound of a piano depends heavily on personal taste. To help you realize your personal palette of sounds, does Yamaha offer you the choice of two world-class concert grand pianos in one? each with their very own character? to convey the emotions that you want to express with a musical performance. With the new AvantGrand N3X you can choose between the authentic sounds of a Yamaha CFX concert grand or a Bösendorfer Imperial at the push of a button. The majestic CFX, the flagship of Yamaha concert grand pianos, offers a wide range of timbres, from brilliant high notes to powerful bass. The legendary Bösendorfer, on the other hand, is famous for its warm and subtle Viennese sound. In both cases, the natural sounds of the AvantGrand N3X allow you to push the limits of your musical imagination.

  • The unfolding of the tonal spectrum

In the AvantGrand series, a special approach was chosen to reproduce the sound of an acoustic grand piano. While recording the sounds from a specially selected concert grand piano, Yamaha engineers took samples from four different positions on the soundboard: left, right, center and rear. Compared to conventional recordings with left and right channels (stereo), the results were wonderfully full and authentic. To make the most of these four-channel recordings, AvantGrand pianos use Yamaha's Spatial Acoustic speaker system? a four-way speaker configuration with which the AvantGrand pianos can deliver lifelike three-dimensional recreations of the original instruments. On the N3X, the speaker positions are the same as the four original

  • Experience the natural resonance of a grand piano thanks to digital technology

In addition to the Spatial Acoustic loudspeaker system, the flat built-in soundboard resonator is located under the music stand and extends over the entire width of the instrument. It enables a more subtle reproduction of the sound development that is perceived when playing an acoustic grand piano. A used as a? Transducer? The designated oscillator transmits oscillations and vibrations to the soundboard, which responds realistically to these sounds, which is particularly evident in the upper registers.

  • An immersive headphone experience

AvantGrand pianos are designed to deliver flawless, room-filling sound. Still, there are occasions when you don't want to bother those around you with your game. For example, when you practice at night or when people around you are busy doing other things, headphones provide a private space where you have the freedom to play how and when you want. Yamaha's advanced binaural sampling makes the sound in your headphones remarkably lively. This technology uses piano samples recorded with special microphones that capture positional information and other nuances perceived by the human ear. The resulting sound is so natural that it's easy to forget you're wearing headphones.

  • An emotional answer

When you play an acoustic piano, the entire body is set in vibrations, which you can feel via the pedals in your feet and via the keys in your fingers. Yamaha's Tactile Response System (TRS) creates this subtle physical perception. This digital technology mediates the natural resonances of a grand piano to transmit the emotional energy between you and the instrument. Even when playing with headphones, TRS can enhance the realistic experience.

  • The subtle pedal stroke of a concert grand piano

When operating grand piano pedals one perceives fine gradations. At first they are rather easy to press, then offer a little more resistance and give way more easily towards the end. Experienced pianists take advantage of this fact and use the pedal gently and sensitively in order to achieve very differentiated nuances in the sound. When developing the AvantGrand, we were careful to reproduce this behavior of the pedals as faithfully as possible. These pedals make it possible to play any music the way it should be played. Impressionistic pieces that require a lot of half-pedal can also be played like on a grand piano.
