The British audio company EVO by Audient is expanding its portfolio with a very special product

This product is a part of the following sets

The audio interface with up to 24 In/Outs has 8 award-winning EVO preamps, state-of-the-art converter technology and the ingenious Smartgain feature, which can adjust the input levels on all 8 channels at the push of a button, thus keeping the EVO promise of making recordings easy close. Motion UI control allows real-time access to all of the device's key functions without ever having to look at the computer. This means every user can make any changes in no time and has full control over the recording session. Using the distinctive green button, the input levels are determined simultaneously for selected or all channels using the Smartgain function and transferred directly to the EVO 16 - automatically and very easily at the push of a button. This makes it easy to avoid unwanted clipping in every recording without having to operate a gain control yourself. The EVO16's numerous optical inputs and outputs offer additional options for expansion, so that everything from drums to a whole band can be recorded easily and smartly. To ensure this, there are both ADAT and SPDIF options to integrate up to 16 additional channels of microphone preamps (e.g. ASP800 or ASP880).

Let's address the construction first. The EVO series are made from plastic and not metal. I've owned three Focusrite Scarlett series interfaces and these were made of metal. But, really, I've never needed the protection or ruggedness of metal - so the EVO 8's build material shouldn't ever be a problem for me. thereafter, it's really easy - the features, the relatively low latency drivers, the EVO Software app - these are all excellent and, at this price point, put the EVO 8 at the top of any short list for consideration. The audio quality sounds very, very clean - I've only used the unit for a few weeks, but so far, so good. One minor caveat - be sure of your USB-C power and cabling - if you don't provide enough power, the EVO 8 cannot deliver phantom power to all four microphone preamps - so do your homework, and get the cabling right. Happy to have purchased this.

Features

Excellent interface. It is neutral and free from background noise, with high-quality preamps. The interface with the PC is excellent. The volume control on the sound card directly controls the internal volume of the PC, which eliminates the need to have separate PC and sound card volumes. The automatic gain control is convenient, but not essential. The direct volume control is quite good, with a balance between direct volume and volume from the PC, but it can sometimes be inconvenient, requiring multiple adjustments to achieve the desired settings. It might be lacking XLR outputs, but it has balanced jacks, which is sufficient.
