EQ's can do wonders

I owned a Boss EQ when I was younger. I didn't know how to use it at the time, and my amps and gear sucked anyway. But now that I'm older, I have some of the best gear money can buy. The Boss GE-7 EQ really takes my sound to a refined level. An example of how I use it is this. I have a Dr Z Z-Lux amp that's very bass heavy. I had a Marshall hand-wired 2061x, which basically has the sound of a plexi, but at about 18 watts. This amp had a certain tonal character that I miss. I can take the Boss GE-7 EQ and give the Dr Z amp this character by slightly dialing back the 100Hz (-1.5) and 200Hz (-1) sliders, tightening the bass up, and then boosting the 1.6k and 3.2k sliders to give it a mid range bump. That's a better platform for slight overdrive, edge of breakup sounds than the Z-Lux has on its own. And I still have that Fender clean sound if I turn off the EQ. It's like having two channels on the amp. Very cool. This pedal can be the perfect boost pedal. It blows one knob boost pedals out of the water because you can tailor your boost to be mid range heavy, you can tighten up the bass, or anything you can think of with the boost. You can leave it colorless and just bring up the level on the pedal. And you can run the EQ through the send/return of an amp and it becomes another EQ stage. Using it this way, you can change out your 3 control EQ stage on your amp (bass, mid, treble) with a 7 band EQ stage by setting the EQ knobs to the level that takes them out of the circuit. The level depends on the amp (check the manual). You can also change the character of your overdrive or distortion pedal by shaping the EQ before or after the pedal. So if you don't have a Tube Screamer, but you have a Boss SD-1, you can bump the mids and lower the bass and make it sound exactly like a Tube Screamer. Lastly, you can do low fi settings that sound like a telephone, or a wah set in one place, for example. Overall, this pedal is the secret weapon. It's dirt cheap and insanely good. Boss knows their stuff.

Great add on my pedalboard

The equalizer is a great add and I bought it to boost my Telecaster output to support higher gain for the distortion. It works great. I immediately bought a 2nd one since by reducing the mid-range and boosting slightly treble and bass my Tele sounds close to a Strat.
